Spring break has come and gone in the blink of an eye. Finals are right around the corner and will be here before we know it. And unfortunately, a lot of us are still in vacation mode and have no energy to continue school for this last month and a half. Finals are right around the corner and will be here before we know it. Luckily, that perfect pick-me-up can be found easily on campus and a plethora of stores around St. George. Here is a list of the best to the worst energy drinks to help you get stuff done those intense study sessions:
Bang energy drinks are the best energy drink I have come across during my four years here at DSU.
Believe it or not, it has no sugar, no calories and is still one of the best tasting energy drinks out there. It contains BCAAs, CoQ10, creatine and 300mg of caffeine. Even with the copious amount of caffeine, I have yet to experience the crash that can come with a lot of other energy drinks that are loaded with sugar.
I often use it for when I go out snowboarding or whenever I need to cram a lot of school work into a short time; it gives me a lot of energy to last me a couple hours.
There are a ton of different flavors; the flavors I personally enjoy are cotton candy, cherry blade lemonade, piña colada and sweet iced tea.
“Redbull gives you wings” is a saying we have all heard at least once in our lives. They are a well-known staple in the energy drink business, especially around college campuses. They have been around since 1984 and they are here to stay.
Redbull gets its energy source from sugar, caffeine, b-vitamins and taurine. There are sugar free options available, but it is just replaced with sugar substitutes to keep it tasting decent.
For me, it doesn’t give me anywhere near the energy burst I get from drinking a Bang. Also, Redbull’s 8.4 fluid ounce can costs about the same as Bang’s 16 fluid ounce can.
If a Bang is not available, Redbull will always be my go-to. It has helped for me before, so it will remain as my plan b.
5 Hour Energy will never be my first go-to in any instance I need energy. While it can give you a tremendous amount of energy, the crash at the end doesn’t make it worth it.
The only times I’ve ever used one is when I have to do a long drive in the middle of the night, and even then, I try not to drink one because I personally experience really bad crashes.
If you don’t mind the crash, then it’s a good option if you want to a set time for the amount of energy you want. It does make me extremely jittery, unlike Bang. Bang also contains more caffeine than 5 Hour Energy, which contains only 242 mg. 5 Hour Energy has a lot more additives than your average energy drink as well, but surprisingly, it contains no sugar.
All in all, I think it’s the last resort if the previous two are not available.
These are two other energy drinks that are extremely popular in the energy drink world and in the subject of extreme sports. I grew up drinking them and loving them only because of how great it tasted due to the sugar.
Both brands contain around 30 grams of sugar in their 16 ounce cans, compared to Bang’s 0 grams. It usually feels as if I just drank a soda and didn’t get much, if any of an energy burst at all. It is a waste of money and you are mainly just paying for the brand, rather than quality.
I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone, unless they aren’t looking for a big energy boost. I’d rather buy a sprite and feel more refreshed and just as energized as if I bought a Monster or Rockstar.
If you’re ever looking for that perfect energy boost to get through the rest of the semester, pick up a Bang and accomplish whatever you’re setting out to accomplish. If you aren’t used to a lot of caffeine at once, I do recommend only drinking half and seeing how that feels. Also, don’t consume any energy drinks on an empty stomach. Happy drinking!
