Trailblazers stun Eagles

Dixie State University escaped with a win Monday night

Despite trailing by double figures with under 12 minutes to go, the Trailblazers fought back and stunned Concordia University Irvine with a 67-64 win.

After suffering a tough loss to Point Loma Nazarene University Saturday, DSU locked horns with inter-conference rivals CUI. The Eagles maintained a steady lead throughout the first half and entered halftime leading 34-28.

The Trailblazers shot a mere 38 percent from the field in the winning effort, but managed to put in 30 points from the paint.

Free throws played a big part in DSU’s success down the stretch. 14 of their final 17 points came from the charity stripe. Free throws have been a major concern for the Trailblazers this season, but head coach Jon Judkins was pleased at his team’s poise down the stretch.

“We got stops and rebounds late,” Judkins said. “Every time we come here, it’s a war. I’m just happy with the way we played and competed tonight.”

DSU moves to 9-2 in conference play and will return home for a five-game home stand beginning Saturday against Azusa Pacific University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside Burns Arena.
