Trailblazers fall in third match of D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase

By:

Dixie State University volleyball gave California State University, San Bernardino, all they could handle, but ended up on the tail end once again in their second match in the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase.

The match proved to be a much more competitive one between the Trailblazers and Coyotes as the two teams fought back and forth through four sets. CSUSB came out on top as they took a 3-1 victory over DSU.

Though the Coyotes took set one 25-21 from DSU, the Trailblazers proved they were not going to go down without a fight. Neither team could pull away as the set proved to be a rollercoaster. The largest run of the set belonged to the Coyotes as they went on a 3-0 run halfway through.

Set two belonged to the Trailblazers as they took advantage of their .407 hitting percentage. The offense was working on all cylinders as it displayed a balanced attack for DSU. Though the Coyotes scratched and clawed to keep the score close, DSU prevailed 25-19.

The third set between the two teams seemed reminiscent of set one. Momentum continued to shift back and forth as the two teams battled. The moment one would take the lead, it didn’t take long for the other team to find their way back. CSUSB once again proved their superiority as they took set three from DSU, 25-21.

The Trailblazers eventually fell to the Coyotes in the final set, 25-12 as CSUSB more than doubled DSU in blocks.

DSU looks to redeem their three-game skid when they take on Sonoma State on Saturday in Rohnert Park, California at 1 p.m.
