Volleyball casts a Storm in Hawaii

The Dixie State University volleyball team went 3-1 after a five-day trip to the islands of Hawaii.

The Storm ended their trip rolling past University of Hawaii at Hilo on Friday 3-1 in a two-hour match. Senior right-side hitter Kendahl Weiland led the team with 19 kills, followed by senior outside hitter Maddie Rex with 13 kills. Shelby Sorenson helped Dixie score with 52 assists. The next person being sophomore setter Kailey Avery with four assists.

The third game wasn’t so fortunate for the Storm against Brigham Young University-Hawaii, which resulted in a loss. Dixie lost 3-0 to the Seasiders in Laie, Hawaii. Dixie had a high of 26 kills to BYU-H’s 49, with only two lead changes throughout the three games.

Dixie found success in the first two games of the trip against Chaminade University and Hawaii Pacific University.

Dixie beat Hawaii Pacific 3-1 on Tuesday in another two-hour match. 

There were 14 lead changes and the score was tied 18 times throughout the game lead to the Storm victory. During this close match the Storm was about even with HPU in kills with 49 to Hawaii Pacific’s 48. Weiland, Rex and senior right side hitter Nicole Keohler.

The Storm shut-out Chaminade on Monday 3-0. (25-14, 25-16, 25-21)

Rex led the team with nine kills followed closely by Keohler with eight in their victory. Avery led the team with 14 assists.

The Storm will compete against the Academy of Art on Tuesday at home at 6 p.m.
