Lightning-sparked Fire Destroys St. George Business

By:

Authorities say they believe lightning caused a St. George business on Hilton Drive to go up in flames.

The fire started about 9:30 on Sunday evening at Malibu Cleaners, and the business is being described as “a complete loss.”

Six fire engines and two ladder trucks responded. Full crews worked well into early Monday morning to secure the premises. Employees of the Maverik at 336 Hilton Drive said that they saw lightning hit the cleaners building and that started the blaze. They say they quickly called 911.

The owner of Malibu Cleaners told SUN News that she owns “more than one” cleaner business in St. George, and that the Hilton Drive location is the original.

This month she was set to celebrate 19 years of business at that store. She says she plans to rebuild.
