TRIO program adviser, tutor coordinator loses battle with cancer

By:

After years of battling colon cancer, Mace Jacobson, Dixie State University TRiO Student Support Services adviser and tutor coordinator, has died.

Jacobson earned her associate’s degree at DSU before returning to the university as a staff member in the registration and admissions offices in 2000. In 2012, Jacobson became a TRIO academic adviser and tutor coordinator.

President Richard “Biff” Williams wrote in an email Friday, “Not only did she work tirelessly and take her role of representing the staff seriously, she also shared an infectious joy that she extended to the students she helped.”

Jacobson was known to have a “portable beach” in her office, which was made and sent to her by a student in support.

A service was held in honor of Jacobson Tuesday at Spilsbury Mortuary at 10 a.m. An open-house celebration of Mace’s life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Roene B. DiFiore Center for Arts and Education.

More will be published shortly.
