The Dixie State University community experienced a deep loss today. Professor of Art Glen Blakley died of the COVID-19 virus Dec. 31.

President Richard “Biff” Williams said in an email sent Jan. 1: “He was a beloved father and teacher; world-class artist, ceramicist, photographer and painter; mentor, teacher, and friend to countless DSU students, faculty and staff. Glen will be remembered for so much, including his generous kind heart and encouraging spirit. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”

A colleague of Blakley’s, Alex Chamberlain, said in a Facebook post Jan. 1 about his passing: “I will sorely miss his gentle greetings when he would poke his head into my classroom just to tell my students how lucky they were to have me. This was too soon. We weren’t ready. My condolences to his family and everyone who called him friend. I’m certain that must be most of the world.”

This story will be updated as more information about his memorial services is released.
