DSU student found dead at off-campus location

By:

President Biff Williams sent out an email to faculty and staff Monday explaining that a student died at an off-campus location.

According to an email from Jyl Hall, director of public relations, the St. George Police Department received a 911 call Monday around 4:30 p.m. from students at Canyonland Apartments reporting they had found their roommate Damion Francis Anderson, a freshman general education major from Springville, not breathing. There were no obvious signs of foul play, and the death appeared to be of natural causes.

According to his obituary, Anderson had plans to be a paramedic. He was in the pre-nursing program at Dixie State University.

Anderson’s body is being examined at the medical examiner’s office in Salt Lake City.

Dean of Students Del Beatty has contacted faculty, staff and students who have interacted with Anderson on campus, and the Health and Wellness Center is providing grief counseling for all those in need.

A viewing will be held on March 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary 211 E. 200 S. Springville, UT.

The Dixie Sun News has requested an incident report and more information will be published as soon as it becomes available.
