Volleyball loses to UAA

By:

After losing their opening match yesterday, Dixie State University fell short again today in its match against the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Deja-vu was happening all over for the Trailblazers as they found themselves trailing right off the bat. After several attempts to chip away at the Seawolf lead, DSU found itself at the tail end of a UAA 11-3 run. The first set ended in favor of UAA, 25-14.

The Seawolves continued to show dominance in the match by gaining a hot start to set two. As UAA thought they may pull away with an easy second set, the Trailblazers fought their way back into the match with several runs, led by the hitting of Delayne Daniel. The Seawolves showed resistance and took set two with a final of 25-19.

Set three was all DSU. After falling behind early, the Trailblazers showed their toughness by fighting back to steal a convincing set from UAA, 25-16. The third set was the first set won by the Trailblazers so far in the tournament.

The fourth set proved to be more than what the Trailblazers could handle as they suffered their worst lost in a set thus far. The Seawolves proved why they were No. 12 in the nation as they took the final set 25-12.

The Trailblazers look to bounce back in game three of the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase tonight against Cal State Bernardino at 8 p.m.
