Dixie State University women’s soccer team is prepared for the 2016 season despite its first losses of the season against Concordia University and Seattle Pacific University last week.
CU started scoring in the 21st minute, shooting a low shot into the left side of the goal. The Cavaliers scored the second goal in the 86th minute as they worked a pass to set up a quick shot that sneeked into the middle of the goal finishing the game 0-2.
The Trailblazers ended the game against CU with a total of 12 shots, with three on goal. Four shots were placed by senior forward Darian McCoy and four by senior midfielder Alexis Torres.
The Falcons did all they needed to the win in the seventh minute, scoring the first and only goal of the game.
“We want to improve what we did and make sure we keep the same or higher intensity,” said senior midfielder Megan Spencer, an exercise science major from Springville.
“The players have been trying to improve mostly on shut outs, defense, high intensity when going forward up to the goal and execution,” Spencer said.
“It’s been exciting to see the new players come off the bench and perform really well.” said junior defender Montana Hadley, an accounting major from Bountiful. “We played really good position-wise.”
The team has gotten a big group of new players this semester.
“We’ve got a big team,” said Hadley. “In some aspects, it can be hard, but we want to come together and be able to get to know each other more,”
“There is definitely room for improvement,” head coach Kacey Bingham said. “We have new attacking players. We are trying to work on our dynamic attacking team, and we really want to have a better defensive showing than last year. ”
Bingham said the team has been putting a lot of effort into this new season and doing their best at practices.
“We are more defensively focus, but we want to score and execute in offense.” Hadley said. “We can always bring the level of play up, but I think that every day we are getting better and better.”
DSU’s next two games will be at home — first on Wednesday against Humboldt State University at 7:30 p.m. and then Friday against Sonoma State University at 12:30 p.m. at Legend Solar Stadium.
