Despite leading by one rub after seven complete innings of play, the Dixie State University Red Storm came up short to California Baptist University in extra innings by a score of 5-4.
Sophomore pitcher Dylan File had another good outing as he gave up two runs on five hits while striking out five batters in seven innings of work. Despite the effort, File earned a no decision.
Redshirt sophomore infielder Cam Gust gave the Storm a 3-1 lead with a homerun to right field in the sixth inning. Gust finished going 2-4 with two RBIs. Junior outfielder Miles Bice singled twice in four attempts as well.
DSU trailed 4-3 going into the final inning. It managed to push across a run on a throwing error to force extra innings. The effort proved to be futile as CBU would put runners on second and third and scored the go-ahead and game-winning run on a wild pitch.
The loss was DSU’s first loss in conference play. The Storm now fall to 12-3 and have hopes of revenge as it takes on CBU Friday in a double header. The front half will be played at Bruce Hurst Field at 4 p.m., and the second will follow at the conclusion of that game.
