Dixie State University  extended its winning streak to five games with two victories this week beating Notre Dame de Namur 3-2 and Academy of Art University 4-2.

Dixie State faced the Notre Dame de Namur University Argonauts Thursday in Belmont, California and then played a second match in San Francisco Saturday against the Academy of Art Urban Knights.

Although NDNU led at halftime 1-0, DSU’s senior forward Jasmine Arollo tied the score in the 49th minute by converting an 18-yard penalty kick. Arollo would score again in the 61st minute after controlling a long pass and converting on a breakaway opportunity.

DSU added another goal in the 67th minute, this time from sophomore forward Darian McCloy. NDNU cut the lead to one in the 77th minute, but could not score again as DSU defeated NDNU 3-2.

DSU out-shot NDNU 11-5, and sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Beecher made three saves. With the win against NDNU, DSU won its fourth straight match, improving to 6-5 and 4-3 in Pacific West Conference play, while NDNU fell to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in PacWest play.

DSU faced conference opponent AAU two days later in San Francisco. AAU scored first in the fifth minute, but DSU answered quickly with a goal of its own 28 seconds later. The goal scorer for DSU was junior midfielder Aubri Detmer, who scored her first goal of the season after getting an assist from sophomore defender Montana Tanner.

McCloy scored her first of the game five minutes later after controlling a pass from freshman forward Tori Washington to give DSU a 2-1 lead. However, AAU beat Beecher in the 38th minute to tie the score at 2-2. McCloy scored yet again just two minutes later when McCloy controlled a ricochet off a Tanner free kick. McCloy grabbed the rebound and put the ball in the mesh behind the AAU goalkeeper to give DSU a 3-2 lead, which it would take into halftime.

The only score of the second half came with just six minutes left in the 84th minute when junior defender Alexis Torres scored on a shot from 35 yards out that sailed over the AAU goalkeeper’s head.

DSU out-shot AAU 13-7 and Beecher made three saves before being replaced in the second half by senior goalkeeper Stacie Gubler, who made two saves. DSU won its fifth-straight match and improved to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in PacWest play. AAU fell to 4-8 overall and 3-4 in PacWest play.

DSU heads south to play California Baptist University Oct. 22 in Riverside, California, before heading up north to face league newcomer Concordia University Oct. 24 in Portland, Oregon.
