Kayla Coolbear, a senior art major from Livermore, California.
What qualifies you for this position?
“The No. 1 experience that makes me the most qualified for the position is working closely with the current president as a VP on his executive council. Additionally, I am a practical leader and the advocate, which is exactly what a person in this position needs to be at.”
What platform are you running on?
“[My platform is] simply unity and advocacy. I’m a natural advocate. I believe I have the kind of the character that the faculty, administrators and the members of the board of trustees can respect, which makes me the perfect proponent of the student ambitions.”
What is the biggest issue at Dixie State University you want to address if elected?
“If elected, the biggest issue I will have to address is something our current president has already begun to respond to, and that is the identity of our university. Our identity has become muddled, and I will be able to help students reach our goal of having a definitive university identity that the students can be proud of.”
Running for student body president
Matt Devore, a junior integrated studies major from Mesquite, Nevada.
What qualifies you for this position?
“I have been involved with the student government for two years: my first year as a committee member for the student life, and my second year as the marketing manager for the public relations. I am also very passionate about the school and students at Dixie.”
What platform are you running on?
“I have four things I am running on. The first is getting the Multicultural Diversity Center moved from the basement of the Student Activity Center to the Gardner Center. The second is getting more student surveys in the first semester, so we can then know what the students want for the send semester. The third is I am wanting to research and get more bachelor degrees available at DSU. The fourth is that I am wanting to continue with and see through to the end of the Dixie Identity. I want to see that finalized.”
What is the biggest issue at Dixie State University you want to address if elected?
“The biggest issue I want to work on is the getting the Multicultural Diversity Center moved into the Gardner Center.”
Running for student body president
Mike Long, a senior psychology major from Hurricane.
What qualifies you for this position?
“I have held many leadership positions in my life, many in the sports, church, community, as well as student body president of my high school, which would all assist in my performance if elected. I also started attending Dixie’ in 2007, took a break and have now been attending for the past four years. Because of this, I have seen Dixie grow in many faucets.”
What platform are you running on?
“I feel students are not informed enough about the benefits that are given to them with their tuition money. Students have so much available to them … , which they have no clue, and I would make it my goal and focus and help students know of these helpful tools that are immediately available.”
What is the biggest issue at Dixie State University you want to address if elected?
“Along with a great community and awesome weather, we can create a campus where students can trust that they will receive the best of everything, feel like they belong and are accepted, and be put in a situation where they can succeed now and in their future careers.”
Running for Vice President of Academics
Warren Anderson, a senior accounting major from Santa Clara
What qualifies you for this position?
“I have been on the student government senate this year and I have gained lots of experience from it.”
What platform are you running on?
“I am wanting to increase student awareness and let students know what kind of opportunities there are at Dixie.”
What is the biggest issue at Dixie State University you want to address if elected?
“I want to let students know what is out there for them. I want them to have better knowledge and be better prepared for the work force. I also want to help students have a better time at DSU.”
Running for Vice President of Academic
Sarah Ramaker, a junior dance major from Midland, Michigan.
What qualifies you for this position?
“I have been in multiple leadership positions and have been able to fine tune how I like to lead the people. I had the opportunity to lead many people my age on tours across the world working with leaders in education in many different countries. I have also gained leadership experience working with the Dixie State’s own Raging Red.“
What platform are you running on?
“Rather than building a campaign on making radical ‘change’ to our current process, I see power and value in standing on the shoulders of my predecessors and building upon and refining the great system we already have.”
What is the biggest issue at Dixie State University you want to address if elected?
“Dixie’s biggest issue as it relates to the senate is the missing link between the students and the resources available to them. From my current position as the fine arts sen., I applaud VP of Academics Samantha Tommer for her work and commitment this semester, and I intend to build upon that pedigree during my term as VP.”
Running for Vice President of Academics
Leah Romney, a sophomore integrated studies major from Duck Creek Village
What qualifies you for this position?
“I am the senator for the humanities at Dixie. I have also worked very closely with Samantha Tommer, Vice President of Academics. I have learned from her what is done as the vice president of academics.”
What platform are you running on?
“I want to continue to promote the senate and how it can help students. I want students to know what resources the senate has to offer them.”
What is the biggest issue at Dixie State University you want to address if elected?
“I want to continue and complete the cheating issue policy.”
Running for Vice President of Clubs
Brogan Crockett , a junior integrated studies major from St. George.
What qualifies you for this position?
“I have a diverse background, enables me to function and work with all different sorts of the people.”
What platform are you running on?
“I’m running on the platform of “I do,” which means I do everything I can to best represent the interests and functions of clubs at Dixie State University.”
What is the biggest issue at Dixie State University you want to address if elected?
“There isn’t a lot of the communication between departments or clubs for that matter, and we have a lot of different people who do a lot of different things. We can best utilize those resources in-house.”
Running for Vice President of Clubs
Tim Long, a junior business finance major from Hurricane
What qualifies you for this position?
“I am very focused about the DSU. I also want to help students with their networking and share my experience at Dixie.”
What platform are you running on?
“I am wanting to help get students involved and gain friendships and memories that will last the rest of their lives. I want to have more club rushes in a semester. That way students can see more often what is offered. I am also wanting to get more clubs started that students will enjoy, and get people to branch out and enjoy Dixie.”
What is the biggest issue at Dixie State University you want to address if elected?
“I want to bring everyone together through clubs. I want to unify DSU and bring everyone together as one. We are all the same.”
Running for Vice President of Clubs
Whittni O’Brien, a sophomore biology major from Edmond, Oklahoma.
What qualifies you for this position?
“‘Vote 4 Whit, she’s legit!’ and ‘Don’t let anyone rain on your parade’ are the slogans I’m using this semester. I suppose my biggest platform is for all of you who support saving the Earth, getting the best education possible and for all my gaming buddies out there. Remember it’s easy as 3.14159 to catch all 1,500 while breaking the pot.”
“My objective is to raise the academic credibility of Dixie State. Since we’re all just starting out, I have full intentions on making every single one of you look amazing for grade school applications. A new university needs someone who’s successful and willing to put our name out there.”
