The truth of the matter is, we don’t know how long we are going to live.
Hopefully we all live happy, healthy lives, but in all reality, you or I could wake-up tomorrow to find out that we have been diagnose with an incurable disease. You or I could live another 73 years, or we could die in the next 73 seconds. We just don’t know.
We don’t know the span of our future. We don’t know when the energy inside of us will dwindle down and eventually completely fade away. For most of us, we hope that it’ll last for at least the next 73 years, but it is impossible to be positive that will happen.
We all think about when our own bodies will run out of energy, but do we stop to think about when earth itself will run out of energy?
Many of us take time to become educated about our own bodies. We research how to stay healthy and what foods to eat to help us stay energized, but do we bother to educate ourselves about the energy upon the earth?
Let us step outside of our own lives for a moment and consider the world we live in, more precisely the planet earth we live on. We don’t know precisely how long the earth will be around. No scholar of science, religious leader or psychic can give us an exact date of when the earth will no longer sustain life.
Chances are we each have our own idea of when the earth will end, but none of us can say matter-of-factly when that will happen. For me, not knowing when the earth will end makes me want to do all that I can to make sure that we don’t run out of energy before you or I kick the bucket. Better yet, that we don’t run out of energy ever.
In order to ensure that the energy on earth doesn’t deplete before earth itself, energy production from every source possible needs to be harnessed. Energy production, specifically in the form of oil, in Utah is already increasing through the process of fracking.
In order for oil production in Utah to increase, more land was opened for drilling. According to The Salt Lake Tribune, land in Utah was recently auctioned off in a lease to be opened for drilling. Multiple Bureau of Land Management offices, including St. George, did the administration of this land.
Drilling in Utah is commonly paired with fracking. John Baza, director of the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining, told SLT that most of wells drilled in Utah are fracked.
Now that more land has been opened, the amount of drilling and fracking will be able to increase, which will in turn increase the levels of oil production, ultimately increasing energy production.
According to SLT, although the land is opened, no one is bidding on the land and drilling isn’t taking place. Sure, interest in purchasing land for oil drilling has increased in comparison to past years, but in comparison to how much land was available for lease, a small portion of it was actually bought.
In my opinion, the biggest problem with energy, fracking in this instance, and being interested in it is the lack of education that people have on the subject. It is up to each of us as individuals to actively seek after knowledge. We shouldn’t expect those around us to feed it to us, we should, and need to, go find it for ourselves.

Yes, attending school is important. Earning a college degree can increase the overall amount of success you have in life. On the other hand, the classes you attend in school will not teach you everything that you will need to know.
Often time the most important, and life changing knowledge that we gain comes from the experiences that we have outside of the classroom. Sure, passing a class is important, but passing life is crucial.
