Tourney creates madness, hope

It might be a stretch, but what if I told you the NCAA 68 team basketball tournament known as March Madness is eerily similar to the wildly popular story of “The Hunger Games?”

Yep, it’s that time of year again. It’s time to fill out those brackets and root for your favorite teams in the big dance. And may the odds be ever in your favor.

Hopefully your team was picked by the “Capital,” aka the NCAA, to be in the field of 68. But if not, you still have to be sure to get those picks right. The excitement begins when you start filling out that bracket and you start to see all of the possibilities.

March Madness is a great time of the year because it has the power to bring together friends and enemies. You cheer for your teams or your brackets to share bonds and memories that can last year-round.

Countless ways of how to fill out your bracket and see your picks quickly start to drop off one-by-one may have you feeling a little boggled. And you may be neglecting your homework, relationships and anything else with real life relevance because of it. But that’s why it’s called March Madness.

It’s like an extra spring break for sports fans.

Sure, Buffalo Wild Wings is putting a dent in your wallet as you go to watch every game each night with your buds. But you can make all that money back if your bracket does well enough.

The enormous bracket of 68 is like the sports enthusiast equivalent to a woman checking her Instagram feed — checking multiple times a day and commenting on every single game result. It can become a real obsession.

With 32 single elimination games in the first two days alone, favorites and underdogs alike fight hard to refrain from being eliminated in each and every contest. Other sports hardly compare to this size of annual tourney, making it easy for any sports fan to bask in the glow of March Madness.

The tournament offers hope to every team in the field, regardless of what seed you are in or how your season went. If you’re in the big dance, anything can happen.

The favorite could run the tables. The lovable, underdog team could come out of nowhere. A buzzer beater could shock the world. Anything can happen during March Madness, and I am looking forward to it. Thank you basketball God.
