Students rely on ‘We are Dixie’ discounts to save money

By:

Money is hard to come by in college, but Dixie State University is making it a little easier to save a few cents here and there with its “We are Dixie” discounts at a lot of local stores and restaurants.

More than 32 businesses offer discounts to Dixie students, and the list is continually growing. The closest restaurants to the college are Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Iceberg, The Orange Peel, and Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe. Every business that offers special pricing has red signs that read “We are Dixie.”

Taylor Andrews Academy has student discounts as well, the academy offers 40 percent off every Friday to Dixie students with their Dixie ID.

“I think that these discounts are not only helpful for students, but it also is a good advertising technique for businesses to bring college students into their stores,” said Ashley Leonard, an employee at The Orange Peel.

Another resource that can help you save money is a Starving Student Card, which also offers discounts and free items.

“Buying a starving student card was so worth it,” Madi Walker, a sophomore biology major from Alpine, said. “I have saved well over what I spent on the card.”

Students can purchase Starving Student Cards at the Dixie State Bookstore for $25.
