DSU campus police officer dies after battling cancer

By:

Dixie State University campus police officer Jon Alexander died Jan. 27 after a long battle with cancer.

Alexander served as a DSU campus police officer for more than eight years and was laid to rest Saturday at a local chapel surrounded by friends and family.

Alexander worked on campus up until about four or five months ago when he started receiving hospice care. Ron Isaacson, assistant director of campus security and police, said Alexander suffered from two types of cancer, one of which doctors could not operate on.

Don Reid, director of campus security and police, is pulling together a fund in honor of Alexander’s family.

Alexander’s contribution to the university surpassed what most faculty, staff and students saw, Reid said in a press release.

“Most of you remember Jon for his soft-spoken manner and easy demeanor, but his service went well beyond the fact that our parking lots were safe and available; that our special events were peaceful and trouble free; and that many crimes that affected surrounding neighborhoods did not spill over onto campus,” Reid wrote.
