Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams took on Point Loma Nazarene University Jan. 25 and came out with different results.
The men entered the matchup with a 14-2 overall record and a national ranking. The women came in with a 7-9 record and a two-game losing streak.

Men
Two steps forward and one step back.
The Dixie State University men’s basketball team had its heart broken again in a close battle against Point Loma on the road Saturday.

It took a 15-point comeback after halftime for the Red Storm to beat the Sea Lions by two points in the Burns Arena earlier this year. But the second half comeback wasn’t enough for the Dixie State men’s team against Point Loma on the road as DSU finished out on the wrong end of a two-point loss, 65-63.

Zach Robbins kept Dixie in the game with another double-double, scoring 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while playing in front of friends and family near his hometown in Upland, Calif.

Women

On the verge of a three-game losing streak, the lady Red Storm knew it was time to man up – Taylor Mann.

Junior forward Taylor Mann led the Storm to victory with 17 points, 16 boards and five blocks.

The Red Storm won on the road at Point Loma in an early afternoon showdown in San Diego Saturday 70-67.

The Storm manhandled the Sea Lions on the boards, winning the rebounding battle 61-33.

Haley Holmstead led all scorers with 19 points.

Nearing the end of the regular season, Dixie State will now play seven of its last nine games at home.

The DSU men and women basketball teams return home to play against the Academy of Art Jan. 30.
