Sports in review: Softball, baseball, golf

From home games to trips to Hawaii over the break, the Dixie State University softball, baseball and golf teams have been putting big numbers on the board.

SOFTBALL

The DSU softball team took two wins against Academy of Art University on Monday. The Storm held the Knights scoreless the first game with a 16-0 score. DSU had three home runs, one triple, five singles and two hits fielder’s choice on the game.

Dixie took a second win to Academy of Art 9-6 to finish out the day.  The Storm kept up the hitting momentum when they accomplished two home runs, one double and six singles on the game. The Storm had another double-header Tuesday, but the information was not available before publication.

BASEBALL

The DSU baseball team went 2-1-2 on its trip to Hawaii beginning March 10 and finishing up March 15. It started off with a big win to University of Hawaii-Hilo 15-0, and it ended its double-header going 2-1 for the last game of the day. The Storm then suffered a 1-1 tie for its third game against Hilo on March 11.

Dixie was then held scoreless by Hawaii Pacific University on March 13, suffering a 0-7 loss on the day. DSU then had two more rough games to HPU on March 14 going 0-8 and 3-7. The Storm then gained momentum and finished their trip with a 5-2 win to Hawaii Pacific on March 15.

WOMEN’S GOLF

The Dixie State women’s golf team started its Entrada Classic golf tournament against Brigham Young University on Monday. The team took 15th place after day one. The team continued to compete at Entrada, but the information was not available before publication.
