Red Storm Sting Yellow Jackets

By:

The Dixie State Red Storm stung the Yellow Jackets of Montana State University-Billings on Tuesday night.

Jumping out to a quick double-digit lead of 11-1 early in the first half, the Red Storm put it in cruise control and never looked back on their way to the 81-70 win.

Dixie State shot 54 percent from the field, and grabbed 20 more rebounds than the Yellow Jackets. Senior Griffin Jones took down 11 rebounds and added 14 points as one of four Dixie players in double figures. Point guard Maurice Cole led Dixie with 18 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets were never able to get back into the game after falling behind early, part of that due to their lack of rebounding. MSU-Billings also launched up 35 three-point attempts, making only 12 of them.

Dixie State gave the Yellow Jackets opportunities to get back into the game. The Red Storm were careless at times, turning over the ball 25 times.

The win brings the Red Storm to a 2-3 record to start of their season. They have 10 days off before their next game, when they travel to Grand Junction, Colo., to face CSU Pueblo as part of the Colorado Mesa Thanksgiving Tournament.

Dixie returns to the Burns Arena on December 5 to host Notre Dame de Namur.
