Undefeated Tigers Spoil Dixie Homecoming

By:

In a battle of the number one and two ranked teams in 3A, the Hurricane Tigers came out fighting. On homecoming night at Walt Brooks Field, excitement filled the air as the teams took the field.

The Tigers started the night off with a two-yard fumble recovery to put the first points on the board.

Dixie’s Justin Cummings snagged an 80-yard pass from Barney to tie it up, but not for long. The Tigers bounced back with a 15-yard run from Brian Scott, and Hurricane finished out the quarter on a two-yard run fom Jared Edwards, leaving the scoring 21-7.

As the second quarter started, the Tigers seemed to soar over the second-ranked Flyers, Brian Scott added another TD on a seven-yard run. Weston Yardley wanted in on the scoring action, and ended the half with a 7 yard run increasing the score to 35-7 at the half.

After the halftime homecoming festivities, the Flyers started off with a 70-yard pass to Cummings. After the first score it was all Hurricane, with another run from Yardley and Thompson scooting across the goal line for his own 42-yard TD. The Tigers finished off the third with a 38-yard field goal.

Hurricane defense was able to hold the Flyers to only one more score in the fourth as Hansen caught a 14 yard pass from Barney. The Tigers remained undefeated and gave the Flyers their first loss of the season. Brian Scott had 162 yards on 10 carries. Edwards added 119 yards on 12 carries, all to help Hurricane cruise to the 51-21 win.
