Recycling Our Responsibility?

By:

As one of my children’s pre-school songs explains, “Earth is home to you and me” and the responsibility of maintaining it falls on our shoulders. Recycling is an integral part of this responsibility, and a little extra effort from each of each can go a long way!

Did you realize that American throw away 2.5 million bottles every hour, and each one can take upwards of 1000 years to decompose in a landfill? Glass take up to one million years to bio-degrade, yet when recycled it can be used over and over and over again. In fact, glass is the most recyclable item and mass amounts still end up in our landfills. Washington County offers a recycling program and has 45  “binnies” scattered throughout.  Binnies are recycling bins labeled with the separate items that can be recycled: paper, plastic, glass and metals. To locate binnies in your area, please log on to www.

Let’s all help maintain the beautiful area in which we live and protect what is ours. Like the song says, “Earth is home to you and me” and it will be that of our children and grandchildren as well. Recycle!
