The year-long waiting period of Yasushi Mikuni’s sentencing came to a close Friday afternoon in Cedar City. Mikuni was the driver of a tour bus that rolled and killed three Japanese tourists not far from Cedar City.
Mikuni’s emotion was evident throughout the entire hearing. Prior to sentencing, Mikuni’s apology letter was read and through tears requested the full sentence recommended by prosecutors saying, “It’s only fair.”
He will serve 365 days in Iron County Jail, two days have already been accounted for. After his year served, he will be required to serve 36 months of probation. Some guidelines to the probationary period include obeying all laws, a fine of $1,500, and restitution to all of the victims of the incident.
Mikuni’s attorney says he agrees completely with the sentencing and plans to work with him throughout the next four years.
